How Things Work: The Universal Encyclopedia of Machines

I was awarded this book
as a Sunday‑School prize
in 1974 when I was 13

Out of sheer curiosity I’ve been breaking things since I was a kid.

I should have How does this work? tattooed right across my bald head.

I’ve pulled everything apart – watches, toys, bikes, businesses – and even got some of them back together and working again.

I’ve fixed computer hardware, sold network technology, taught scuba-diving and run companies.

I’ll always be trying to figure out how things work.
